More than just performance, Emily Cole (@emilycolemusic) finds music to be akin to therapy, a way to survive loss and speak truths too heavy to be silenced. Her latest track, “Cross My Mind”, opens with the line: “I know grief like a close friend. I’ve been losing everyone since I was 10.” Brutal in its honesty, it captures the weight of growing up with grief as a constant companion. Raised in a strict household where music was off-limits, Emily found her way by sneaking in Adele records and what she calls “heart songs,” music that told the truth and moved people. Those influences, along with artists like Sleeping at Last and John Bellion, shaped her songwriting into something raw and deeply connective. “I want to make sure that everything I write, I relate to,” she says. Emily now finds herself stepping fully into the dream she once feared to admit, embracing performing, releasing music, and showing up as her authentic self. “Not everyone is supposed to be a Beyoncé,” she explains. “But if you’re not authentic, everyone can pick up on that.” Through vulnerability and honesty, Emily invites listeners not just to hear her music, but to feel it.
